Voter Education
Why is Voter Registration Important for Affordable Housing?
Affordable housing providers are well positioned to help increase voter registration among their residents. Affordable housing developments often have robust community programming and organized activities that can be piggybacked with voter registration efforts. Importantly, affordable housing managers and staff also have multiple opportunities for direct interaction with tenants where voter registration can be promoted. These include during the lease-signing, new resident welcome sessions, and annual re-certifications for those developments with income verification. In addition, property managers and service providers often know the families who live in the developments and can be in a position to identify informal leaders and influencers in the community and who may serve as resources and catalysts to encourage and promote voter registration
